National Girls & Women in Sports Day to be celebrated in Flint Feb. 3

National Girls & Women in Sports Day in Flint,  takes place on Feb. 3 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., at the International Academy of Flint, located at 2820 Saginaw St.
The event honors the women who has paved the way, as well as the legacy student-athletes that are following their footsteps.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is a nationwide celebration that honors the accomplishments of girls and women in sports. It also recognizes the ongoing fight for equality in sports.

NGWSD began in 1987 to honor Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman. It started as a day to recognize women’s sports in the nation’s capital. It provides role models for girls to continue playing sports and encourages and empowers girls and women to reach their full potential 

It celebrates:
  • The achievements of girls and women in sports
  • The positive influence of sports participation
  • The struggle for equality for women in sports
  • Athleticism, empowerment, and inclusivity
Flint, Michigan is home to many women leaders in sport that have changed the game -from Olympic Gold Medal winners, WNBA National Champions, Collegiate National Champions and more!
