Flint Officials Warn the Public to Stay Off Kearsley Lake

Extreme cold is causing ice buildup on the lake, making it unsafe.
FLINT, Mich – Flint city officials are urging the public to stay away from Kearsley Lake. The frigid winter weather has resulted in severe ice buildup, and lake levels are unpredictable. While the ice may appear to be solid, officials say it is critical that people understand they should not venture out onto the lake because it is unsafe.

Safety Reminder:

·      Ice thickness and stability can vary greatly and may not support weight.

·      Unpredictable weather conditions can quickly weaken the ice.

·      Accidents can occur even in seemingly safe areas.

To protect the safety of all, Flint officials are urging everyone to stay off the lake until further notice. Parents are encouraged to remind their children of the dangers of going onto frozen bodies of water. Adhering to this safety warning will help prevent unfortunate accidents and keep our community safe.
