5 qualified candidates to be interviewed to fill 1st Ward city council seat formerly held by Eric Mays

AT THIS TIME, the following city of Flint residents have applied to fill the vacancy in the Office of Council Member – First (1st) Ward and have been determined to be qualified applicants:

1. Linda Anthony;
2. Leon El-Alamin;
3. Freddie Eugene McCoy;
4. Rosemary Morrow; and
5. D. Eric Walker.

City Councilmember Eric B. Mays passed away on February 24, 2024, creating a vacancy in the Office of the 1st Ward.

Pursuant to Flint City Charter §2-410(B)(1), the City Council shall within thirty (30) days appoint a person having the same qualifications for such office.

The City Council shall consider and appoint one of these individuals to serve as 1st Ward Council Member BEFORE midnight, March 25th

That person shall serve in this capacity until a special election is scheduled by the City Council, the special election is held, and a candidate is certified as elected.

At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, there will be a Special City Council Meeting for the purpose of interviewing the candidates.
