Gov. Whitmer still weighing permit for asphalt plant near their community
FLINT, Michigan – Stop the Ajax Asphalt Plant Coalition will host an online vigil on the night of November 12 to show their opposition to construction of a hot mix plant in their community. Participants will be invited to light a candle in unity as they mourn the death of clean air should Gov. Gretchen Whitmer approve the project. The permit has already been delayed five times since July due to such opposition.
Featured speakers will include Bishop Bernadel Jefferson, Director of C.A.U.T.I.O.N., Lashaya Darisaw, a Flint community organizer and Anthony Paciorek, environmental justice organizer with Michigan United. The vigil will be a prelude to a town hall conversation on the topic planned for Monday.
The Coalition to Stop Ajax Asphalt Plant is composed of the St. Francis Prayer Center, C.A.U.T.I.O.N, Environmental Transformation Movement of Flint, Flint Rising, Greater Holy Temple Church, Michigan United and the R. L. Jones Community Outreach Center Campus.
