7th Ward Council seat will be included in special election

  Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton
The Flint City Council has voted to include the 7th Ward council seat in the special primary election scheduled for May 7, 2024.
The vote, which occurred during the January 8 meeting was unanimous amongst council members who were eligible to vote. Eric Mays (Ward 1), was not able to vote due to a current suspension.
This special election will be followed by a general election scheduled for August 6.
The council seat for the 7th ward is currently occupied by Candice Mushatt who was appointed to the seat by her colleagues in July. Mushatt’s appointment followed the resignation of former council president Allie Herkenroder.
Voters in the 9th ward will also be voting during this election after recall efforts against 9th Ward Councilwoman Eva Worthing were successful. Worthing has stated that she has no plans on running for her current seat.
