34th District Race Heats Up!

Our State and our city are facing many tough challenges.  At this time, what is truly needed is someone who has their eyes on, and possible solutions to help address our city’s issues; those of high water rates, safety (crime and fire), public school concerns, and economic development to name a few.  In this highly contested 34th district race, State Representative Woodrow Stanley is term limited out; and while he has done a fine job, he has left big shoes to fill.  Nine candidates are attempting to fill those shoes.  The list includes:  Flint teacher Jeff Bean, Genesee County Commissioner Omar Sims, Flint School Board member David Davenport, Sixth Ward Flint City Councilman Sheldon Neeley, First Ward Flint City Councilman Eric Mays, Community activist Quincy Murphy, Nathan Morrish and Donna Calvin.

A forum will be given by the Flint Branch NAACP, along with co-sponsored by the Concerned Pastors for Social Action, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the League of Women Voters.  The forum will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Flint Public Library.  Dr. Karen Williams Weaver will serve as the moderator.  We are inviting the public to come out and join us.  Most importantly for us all is to make an informed, educated vote in this important election.
