Voters to decide fate of city councilwoman

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

Voters in the 9th Ward will now decide if Councilwoman Eva Worthing will keep her seat as the representative for that ward. According to County Clerk Domonique Clemons, petitioners in the 9th Ward have collected enough valid signatures to trigger a special election placing the current council woman’s name on the ballot.

The signature counting process was complicated due to rezoning that took place after Worthing was re-elected in 2020. Clemons noted that only those voters who were eligible to vote in the 9th ward during the last council election were eligible to sign the recall petition.

Worthing has until December 13, 2023, to challenge any of the signatures used to recall her. A special election is scheduled for May 7, 2024.
