Alleged Flint Township dog hoarders found and put in jail

The Flint Courier News recently posted that the owners of a home in Flint Township who hoarded dozens of animals in squalor had been charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor by Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton after police submitted their investigation reports and a request for warrants on March 2.

At the time, it was reported  that the wheareabouts of home’s residents, Kim Shires and Brenda Shires, remained unknown.

On March 14, the Flint Township Police Department posted the following on at least one of  their social media pages:

Detectives have continued to work behind the scenes to find Kim and Brenda Shires after rescuing over 60 dogs and finding almost 30 dead dogs in their home last month. On Thursday, March 12th, Flint Township Detectives contacted the Grand Rapids Police Department and asked them to check an address for Brenda. In under an hour they had Brenda in custody, and arrangements were made to transfer her to Flint Township Detectives where she was lodged at the Genesee County Jail.
On March 13th she was arraigned on her felony charges and issued a 150k bond!
The search continues for Kim Shires who detectives believe fled Michigan to Tennessee to avoid prosecution. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Kim Shires, please contact Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County or Detective Lopez (810) 600-3250.
The work isn’t done. Those animals, including the ones who were left to die, deserve justice. We’ll continue to fight for them during the search for Kim and advocating for them during the court process.
Two days later, on March 16, it was announced by the Flint Township Police Department that Kim Shires had been captured, as well.
The following was posted on the township police department’s social media page:
This afternoon Flint Township Detectives, in coordination with police in Indiana, tracked down and arrested Kim Shires hiding at an area hotel. He is currently lodged in their County jail and is awaiting extradition back to Genesee County to face his criminal charges.
The Flint Courier News will continue to keep our readers informed on this case, which we understand many of our readers find very disturbing.
