FLINT, Mich. — In a powerful local response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Health Center
Week proclamation, the City of Flint said they are making health care more accessible than ever.
Every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Flint residents can receive free, walk-in health services at the Clio Road Community Service Center—located at 4805 Clio Road (building marked 4813).
Led by Nurse Practitioner Denika Dalton, the weekly clinic offers vital screenings and evaluations, including:
● Blood pressure checks
● Depression and mental health screenings
● Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments
● General wellness evaluations
No appointments are necessary, and all services are provided at no cost.
“This is more than a health check—it’s a community check-in,” said Shebra Ward of the City’s Office of Public Health. “We’re removing barriers to care and meeting people where they are.”
A Public Health Navigator is also onsite to assist residents with accessing local services, including free PUR water filters and guidance through health and social support systems.
The initiative aligns with Governor Whitmer’s statewide push to protect and expand health care access, especially in light of federal threats to Medicaid and Marketplace insurance. Her Health Center Week proclamation celebrates the role of Michigan’s 400+ health centers in serving rural communities, veterans, and vulnerable populations.
Flint’s walk-in clinic is a local embodiment of that vision—bringing care directly to the people and reinforcing the city’s commitment to health equity.
ALSO, Save the Date: Overdose Awareness Day is August 30. In addition to weekly health services, the City of Flint will host an Overdose Awareness Day event on Friday, August 30 at Flint City Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature:
● Free Narcan kits and training
● Stories of hope and healing
● Local resource booths
● A community memorial
