Councilwoman Eva Worthing withdraws from race

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

9th Ward Flint City Councilwoman Eva Worthing has withdrawn her name from the May 2024 ballot. Worthing, who was facing a special election, has decided against attempting to keep her position as councilperson of the city’s 9th ward.

The initial announcement was made via facebook when Worthing made a post on December 19, 2023 that said in part “Hey all! I wanted to let you know that I’ve officially taken my name off of the May council election ballot”. This decision was confirmed by the Genesee County Clerk’s office.

A special election was triggered after recall efforts were deemed successful earlier this month. She is one of several current council members who have been targeted for recall, including Eric Mays(Ward 1), Ladel Lewis (Ward 2) and  Jerri Winfrey-Carter (Ward 5).

The Flint City Council has been known to have discourse amongst its members. Often evidenced by arguing and bickering throughout the meetings. Worthing referenced the discourse as a reason that she is choosing to not run for the seat again.
