City of Flint to host in-person Flint Youth Summer Job Training application event at City of Flint Service Center

FLINT, Mich.—Flint youth ages 15-19 can apply for summer jobs Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18 from 2-5 p.m. at the City of Flint Service Center on Clio Rd.

Six community organizations will provide summer jobs for youth through a $200,000 ARPA allocation proposed by Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley and approved by the Flint City Council.

Part of Mayor Neeley’s Safe & Clean Summer initiative, the program will provide 5-week jobs for up to 10 kids at each of the six organizations this summer; 60 total jobs are available. Each job will pay $11 per hour for 29 hours each week.

The six organizations hosting the summer job program are North Flint Neighborhood Action Council, Latinx Technology and Community Center, The Good Church, Cathedral of Faith, Faith Foundation Resources and McCree Theatre.

“Summer jobs are a great way for young people to learn about the world of work and gain experience,” Neeley said. “They provide positive ways for youth to participate in their communities during the summer, when they might otherwise be lightly supervised while parents are working. As a teenager, I benefited from summer job programs like this one, and it’s important that kids have these valuable opportunities today. This is a win-win: helping kids gain job skills while keeping them safe and out of trouble. This is just one of the ways we’re preparing for a safe and clean summer in the city of Flint.”
