GCFPL to host ‘Hallo-Palooza’ as part of 175th anniversary celebration

FLINT, Mich. — The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library (GCFPL) is bringing Halloween fun to the library as part of its yearlong celebration of 175 years of building stories together.

GCFPL will host Hallo-Palooza on Saturday, October 24, from 1 – 3 p.m. in the C.S. Mott Foundation Community Room. The free community celebration will offer an afternoon of family friendly Halloween activities, creativity, games, music and library exploration for guests of all ages.

Attendees can expect:

• DJ and dancing, including a Monster Mash celebration

• Monster Mash Story Time with Laurie and Ashley

• Trick-or-treating throughout the library

• An interactive library scavenger hunt featuring stops throughout the building

• Mask-making and Halloween bag decorating

• Balloon artist

• Face painting

• Costume swap table

• Candy, prizes and non-candy treats

• Opportunities to explore some of GCFPL’s unique spaces and community resources

“Hallo-Palooza is a fun way for us to celebrate our 175th anniversary while creating new memories with the community,” said Desmond J. London Sr., executive director of the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library.

London added: “The library has been a place for generations of Flint residents to gather, learn and experience something new. We’re excited to open our doors for an afternoon of Halloween fun that encourages families to explore, create and celebrate together.”

Hallo-Palooza is part of GCFPL’s ongoing 175th anniversary celebration, themed “Building Stories Together for 175 Years.” Throughout 2026, the library has been celebrating its history while looking ahead to the stories and connections that will shape its next 175 years.

Community members are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite Halloween costume for an afternoon of music, crafts, stories, games, trick-or-treating and library fun.
