Gloria Coles Flint Public Library Partners with Detroit Lions to Ignite 2026 Summer Reading Challenge

FLINT, Mich. – The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library recently announced its participation in the 2026 Detroit Lions Summer Reading Program, a statewide initiative designed to increase youth reading and engagement across Michigan through the excitement of Detroit Lions football.

This partnership is part of the library’s 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, which runs now through August 1, 2026 and is open to both children and adults.

Participants are encouraged to track their reading all summer long for the chance to win exciting prizes, including books, Beats by Dre headphones, bicycles, tablets, Kindle devices, back-to-school shopping
sprees and a special Detroit Lions experience.

Youth who participate in Gloria Coles Flint Public Library Summer Reading Challenge will be entered into a drawing for a Detroit Lions surprise. The raffle will be conducted by Gloria Coles Flint Public Library and recipients will be selected by library staff.

The program is designed to celebrate reading at every age level, while encouraging families to stay engaged in literacy, learning and fun throughout the summer months.
Families are also invited to a special Summer Reading Challenge celebration on Tuesday, July 21, at 11:15 a.m., at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library during the Games on the Lawn program. The event will feature representatives from the Detroit Lions and will give attendees the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, connect with Lions representatives, register for the Summer Reading Challenge and receive free books to help kick off their summer reading journey.

“This partnership represents the heart of what we believe in at the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library,” said Desmond J. London Sr., executive director.

London added: “When we combine the excitement of an organization like the Detroit Lions with the power of literacy, we create meaningful opportunities for our community.

Registration for the Summer Reading Challenge is available at: https://flintpl.readsquared.com/

Participants are encouraged to sign up early, track their reading throughout the summer and take part in library programs designed to support literacy, learning, and community connection.
