State of Michigan Honors the Legacy of the Honorable Floyd Clack

The life and legacy of the late Honorable Floyd Clack were commemorated at the Michigan State Capitol in a heartfelt Memorial Tribute recognizing his decades of service to the residents of Flint, Genesee County and the State of Michigan. A dedicated public servant, Clack served seven terms in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he championed equitable public education, supported working families and advanced sustainable development in urban communities.

On September 24, 2024, lawmakers gathered in the Capitol to present the tribute in the presence of his devoted wife, the Honorable Brenda Clack, their son Michael Floyd, daughter Mia, beloved grandchildren, former staffers, Former Flint Mayor Dr. Karen Weaver, and many friends and colleagues who were impacted by his leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the full membership of the Michigan House of Representatives, the Speaker offered House Resolution No. 177, a formal expression of the Legislature’s highest respect. The resolution highlighted Clack’s extensive legislative service, including his roles as Chair of the House Committee on Civil Rights and Women’s Issues and the House Committee on Corrections. He also served on the Ad Hoc Committee on Alternatives for High-Risk Students, the House Committee on Education, Labor and Urban Affairs, and numerous other committees focused on social justice, community safety, and opportunity for all.

Throughout his career, Floyd Clack was known as a principled leader, a tireless advocate and a mentor to many. His work helped shape policy across generations, and his voice for equity and fairness left a lasting imprint on Michigan’s history.

The House of Representatives offered this resolution not only as a legislative act but as a profound tribute to honor the memory, service, and enduring legacy of the Honorable Floyd Clack—an exemplary public servant whose impact will be felt for years to come.
