The Flint African American Quilters Guild (FAAQG) presenting free exhibit and celebration

The Flint African American Quilters Guild (FAAQG) is presenting an upcoming community event for the Flint community to learn at and enjoy.

This October, the Guild will host its 36th Annual Quilt Exhibit, a celebration of artistry, storytelling and tradition. The exhibit showcases quilts created by guild members, many of which reflect the rich history and cultural heritage of African American quilting. A highlight each year is the collaborative raffle quilt, which always draws strong community interest.

This year holds special significance for us: the Guild was recently awarded the 2025 Michigan Heritage Award for quilting by the Michigan Traditional Arts Program at Michigan State University — the state’s highest honor for traditional artists.

Founded in 1987, the Flint African American Quilters Guild has spent nearly four decades preserving and passing on this important cultural tradition through exhibits, workshops and community outreach in schools, churches and senior centers.
