FLINT=The McCree Theatre’s 4th Annual Fundraising Gala is taking place August 30, at the St. Michael’s Conference Center.
The keynote is K. Zaheerah Sultan, former executive director of the Black Theatre Network. The Black Theatre Netwok is international organization with a 38-year legacy dedicated to serving the People of the Global Majority across the African Diaspora. Sultan’s impactful essay on “Financial Fitness for Black Theatres” is a featured gem in “The Routledge Companion to African American Theatre and Performance.”
Sultan is also founder Mind Your Business Art (MYBA), LLC, a dynamic force in the world of arts consulting, specializing in theater from her Detroit, MI base. As an award-winning advocate, she champions diversity, equity and inclusion in the third sector. Her multifaceted expertise spans performing arts, business development, philanthropy, management and social impact.
Sultan’s leadership has helped elevate the visibility of Black theatre on national platforms.
The McCree Theatre has been a long-time anchor for arts and culture on Flint’s north side. It is dedicated to its mission to tell the “African American story in the African American voice.”
This year’s honorees are Hubert Roberts, Linda Gully, Fannie Norris and Larry Henderson. They will receive an award for their service to McCree Theatre.
McCree Theatre’s Board, staff and volunteers are inviting the public to become sustaining members of the McCree Theatre family and support their endeavor.
