New web resource launched to educate public about gun safety laws

Visit www.migunsafety.org to understand new laws effective February 13

Detroit – Recently, End Gun Violence Michigan released an updated website at www.migunsafety.org.

The new landing page includes fact sheets and resources about all the new gun safety laws that went into effect  February 13.

Visitors to www.migunsafety.org can learn:

-How to comply with the new safe storage requirement for guns in homes with children;

-How to obtain a background check, which is now needed to purchase any firearm in Michigan, even from an individual;

-What crimes are covered by the new restriction on firearm ownership for convicted domestic abusers;

-How to file for an “Extreme Risk Protection Order” in the event that a loved one has become a danger to themselves or others. Please note: The State Court Administrator’s Office has not yet released the final form needed to apply for an Extreme Risk Protection Order. We do not recommend that the public file an Extreme Risk Protection Order petition until it does.
