Hamilton Community Health Network ‘Stomps Out Stigma’ of suicide and addiction in new behavioral health event

FLINT, MI (October 19, 2023) – Hamilton Community Health Network (HCHN) is hosting a free behavioral health event called Stomp out Stigma surrounding the topics of suicide, addiction and stress to raise more awareness, reduce stigma and help those who are struggling.

This event will feature three speakers from Hamilton’s Behavioral Health team: Albert Ujkaj, LMSW-MBA, Susan Carsten, LMSW, and Lynda Maxfield, PhD, FNP-BC, NP-BC. Carsten will focus on the topic of stress; this will include how stress can be so overwhelming it can lead to suicidal thoughts and addictions. She will also offer stress management help and tips. Ujkaj will dive deeper into suicide; including what causes suicidal thoughts, how to help someone experiencing suicidal ideation, treatment options, and more. Maxfield will share information on the topic of substance abuse, the science behind substance abuse, how substance abuse affects people, different types of addiction, treatment options and more.

Stomp out Stigma will take place on October 24 at Hamilton’s North Pointe clinic (5710 Clio Rd, Flint, MI 48504) from 5-6:30 p.m., in the main conference room. Hamilton will be providing dinner from Panera Bread. Hamilton will also be providing take-home informational packets, activities, and more.

Local organizations will be providing raffles, gift cards and details on resources and assistance for topics such as prevention, Medicaid redetermination, and more.

Individuals who are overwhelmed, stressed, depressed or struggling with suicidal thoughts, addiction, or know a loved one who is struggling are encouraged to attend this FREE event.
