FLINT, Michigan — The Ruth Mott Foundation has welcomed Tiffany Brown, an expert communications and public relations professional, to the foundation’s Board of Trustees.
Born and raised in Flint, Brown is currently working for the federal Department of Justice in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan, where she serves as the director of communications and community engagement.
Ruth Mott Foundation Board Chair Maryanne Mott said Brown’s commitment to her hometown and purpose-driven energy will benefit the Board in carrying out its place-based strategic plan focused on the north Flint community.
“I am grateful Tiffany is joining our Board and bringing her fresh perspective and experience as an advocate for the people of Flint,” said Mott, daughter of the late Ruth Rawlings Mott and Charles Stewart Mott.
“Her love for this city shines bright and she has dedicated her impressive career to serving Flint, the State of Michigan and our country with passion and integrity,” added Maryanne Mott.
Brown previously served in several communications positions for the State of Michigan, including key roles in Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive office as press secretary, director of communications and senior advisor at the Michigan Infrastructure Office. She made Michigan history in 2019 as the first African American appointed by the governor as press secretary and, later, communications director in the executive office. She was recognized by the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus for this accomplishment.
Prior to her service in Whitmer’s office, Brown served as public information officer for the Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, where, during the Flint water crisis, she was the state’s lead liaison for her hometown at the Joint Information Center. She also served as deputy press secretary under former Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
“I am thrilled to join an organization working on equitable solutions to improve the quality of life for Flint residents,” Brown said. “Being from Flint is a great source of pride. I’m honored to serve in this role for such an impactful organization, and I look forward to continuing to give of myself, intentionally, for the greater good of my hometown.”
Brown graduated from Flint Northwestern High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Michigan-Flint and her master’s degree in communications and public relations from Michigan State University.
Brown is the 10th member of the Ruth Mott Foundation Board of Trustees. The Board also has two trustees emeriti.
