A Day of Racial Healing is September 29

Day of Racial Healing will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29 in Flint. The day brings people together in their common humanity, the theme of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s (CFGF) 30th anniversary year.
“We invite community members to participate in healing conversations that help us understand the racial dynamics of our community,” said Isaiah Oliver, CFGF President and CEO. “In doing this work, we hope to heal and build sustainable progress neighbor by neighbor, community by community, to transform the racial narrative in Flint.”

Local healing practitioners have been trained to facilitate a series of healing circles during A Day of Racial Healing. Small groups of individuals will be guided in conversations composed of three parts: listening, becoming open to one another’s perspectives and experiences; and allowing yourself to be impacted and/or be transformed by the experience.

“Racial healing circles are experiences that engage an open and expansive heart,” said Oliver. “Through the healing circle process, we can acknowledge the unconscious bias that lives in all of us and reaffirm our common humanity.”

Two sessions will be held at the Mott Community College Regional Technology Center, 1401 East Court Street, Flint. Participation is limited to the first 100 registrants. The morning session will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m. and concludes at 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be served to all participants between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Register online at www.cfgf.org by Monday, September 10. For more information contact Lynn Williams, CFGF Community Engagement Officer, at 810-767-8304.
