FLINT, MICH.  On Tuesday, March 21, Hamilton Community Health Network will kick off their behavioral health series Happy Mind, Better Health. These discussions will be focused on how to better your physical health through the betterment of your behavioral health.

Hamilton’s head of the behavioral health unit, Albert Ujkaj, LMSW, will be leading a discussion on how a healthier mind leads to better physical health. Many times, people struggling with behavioral health issues have many underlying issues too. Physical health problems can often stem from behavioral health issues. For example, physical pain can often be related to depression, drug or alcohol abuse or even grief. Understanding  behavioral health can drastically improve physical health.

“I am excited to begin offering these free conversations,” Ujkaj says, “I don’t think behavioral health is talked about enough in our area. We want to help our community find the root causes of their problems.”

The Happy Mind, Better Health talk will have professional behavioral health advice given in an accessible fashion. The event is free to anyone that wishes to come. There will be handouts for those in attendance to take home with them to keep the behavioral health topics and advice readily available.

“The events will be kept on the smaller side to allow for sharing,” Ujkaj says. “As time goes on, we may need to expand as there is a real need for these events.”

Participants will also receive a bite to eat, drinks, health information, plus for those who receive a blood pressure check, Meridian Health will be on hand giving out gift cards.

The Happy Mind, Better Health talk will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at Hamilton Community Health Network’s North Pointe Clinic, located at 5710 Clio Rd, Flint, MI 48504.  Anyone who is looking for ideas on how to better manage their mental health should be encouraged to attend and learn how to better their thoughts to improve their physical health.

Seating is limited. Please RSVP to Allie McKenzie at alliesue.mckenzie@hamiltonchn.org.
