“Travel” the World With MCC

“Travel” the world with the Mott Community College International Institute during International Week March 31 through April 5 on the main campus in Flint.

International week will feature a cultural fair of MCC international students’ home countries, a meet and greet with MCC’s international students, a presentation by Fulbright Scholar Artem Zakharchenko, an Indonesian Cultural Fair, and a German film and discussion night. The week-long event is sponsored by the International Institute and the International and Global Studies Program at MCC. All events are open to the public.

The event calendar includes:

SUNDAY, March 31

Haiti Benefit Concert and Silent Auction featuring the MCC Concert Band, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Doors open for the silent auction at 2:30 p.m., the concert begins at 3 p.m. (followed by a reception), in the MCC Events Center. There is a $5 admission charge, with proceeds benefitting the Holy Trinity Music School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

 

MONDAY, April 1

Travel Around the Globe – without leaving Flint! Meet MCC ́s International Students and learn about their home countries and cultures by visiting each country-themed station from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in the “Fishbowl” (Student Lounge area) in the Curtice-Mott building. This event is FREE!

 

TUESDAY, April 2

International Equal Pay Day Luncheon & Discussion Panel from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., in the Applewood Cafe (RSVP required). Students are FREE with MCC ID, $15 admission for the general public. Wear RED to show solidarity for pay equality! RSVP by March 28 to mcceventsonline.com.

 

WEDNESDAY, April 3

German Film & Cultural Discussion Night beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the RTC Auditorium. This event is FREE!

 

THURSDAY, April 4

Indonesia Cultural Fair from noon to 3 p.m. in the Event Center. This family friendly event is FREE and open to the public! Explore Indonesia by visiting various stations designed to

enhance your cultural understanding of the region. Activities include Yoga, crafts, information tables, trivia, selfie station, and more!

 

Fulbright Scholar Research Presentation from 1-2p.m in the Event Center. This event is FREE and open to the public! Fulbright Scholar Artem Zakharchenko will present his research: “How Fake News Stories Go Post-Truth: Dynamics of Social Impact.”

 

Fulbright Scholar Meet and Greet from 3 – 4p.m.; on the third floor of the Mott Library in the Center for Teaching & Learning. Meet Fulbright Scholar Artem Zakharchenko, and learn

more about him and his research.

 

FRIDAY, April 5

Explore International Food and Fashion from 1:30- 2:30p.m. on the third floor of the Mott Library in the Center for Teaching & Learning. Join us for a fun hour of global fashion, international desserts, culture, and diversity! This event is FREE and open to the public – however, space is limited.
