“Summer reading is especially important for children. We want children to enjoy a variety of experiences, read for fun and avoid the summer learning slide,” said Wanda Harden, community engagement and communications manager for the Library. “Children can lose up to three months of reading and math skills over the summer and that’s why we challenge children to keep their skills sharp by reading, writing, attending various and programs, and exercising their brains!”

Listeners Challenge: For children 0 – 4 years old. Log the books you read to your little one to win them prizes and give them an early love of reading.

Children’s Challenge: For children 5 – 11 years old. Every Saturday from 1:00-4:00, check in with your books read for the week and collect prizes along the way and be entered in the Grand Prize drawing.

Teen Challenge: For ages 12 – 17. Log your reading to earn prizes! You can also earn points by attending our Teen Tech Camps, Teen Summer Challenge Workshops or any of our other summer programs for teens.

Adult Challenge: Log your books, attend programs and complete online challenges to win prizes! Drawings will be held every Saturday throughout the Summer.

Teens and tweens have special interests! Teen Tech Camp, a series of workshops, Tuesdays through Thursdays July 9-August 1, 3, will explore digital and tech applications. Teen Summer Reading workshops cover a variety of interests including creative painting, rocket launch, stop motion, aluminum embossing, claymation and Babysitters Academy. Register at 810.249-2569.
