Friends of the Flint Public Library Annual Event and Volunteer Awards
To feature The New McCree Theater
This year’s Friends of the Flint Public Library’s Annual Event, will be held Saturday April 25, from 2-4 pm. It will begin with a salute to two outstanding library volunteers Karen Felder and Jan Shimoda followed by an excerpt from The New McCree Theater’s production of “Sincerely: The Musical Odyssey of an Original Moonglow.” Free. Refreshments will be served.
of General Motors after 30 years of service. She began volunteering in the Friends Gift Shop in January of 2012. She volunteers two hours every Friday and has accumulated over 200 hours of service. The Friends are pleased to honor her for her consistent commitment to the library.
Jan Shimoda is a retired physician. She sorts books and materials in preparation for the Used Book Sales every Tuesday (11am-2pm) year round. In addition, she has worked many more hours helping to setup the book sales, sell books, and help pack books and clean-up. Her 100 plus hours of volunteer time really helps the Friends efforts for the Flint Public Library.
“Sincerely: The Musical Odyssey of an Original Moonglow,” a musical that follows the career of Harvey Fuqua, founder and lead singer of the doo-wop group the Moonglows. The Moonglows were an American vocal group whose most notable hits, “Sincerely”, “Most of All”, “See Saw” and “Ten Commandments of Love.”
