Rev. Dr. R.B. Holmes Announces Candidacy for President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and Announces Formation of National Pastors Task Force.

Dr. R.B. Holmes, pastor of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida, will announce the formation of a 40 member National Pastors’ Task Force  to have “Stand Your Ground” laws repealed or amended in all states Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 2:30 PM at The National Press Club in Washington DC.

  The Pastors’ Task Force is a major focus of Holmes’ “Social Justice” platform in his “12 Point Action Vision Plan” to “Reenergize, Reinvigorate and Re-brand” the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.  Reverend Holmes  will also officially  announce his candidacy for president of the nation’s largest African American Baptist Convention, The National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., which has a reported membership of several million members.   ”Enough is Enough! We need to take a deeper look at this legislation to make it abundantly clear that Stand Your Ground Laws are not being used unfairly and unjustly, in reference to poor and minority communities” stated Holmes.

  Other notables expected to join Dr. Holmes are renowned civil rights Attorney Benjamin Crump (FL), United States Congresswoman Corinne Brown (D-FL), Honorable Judge Glenda Hatchett,  Reverend Dr. Jamal Bryant(MD) , Rev.  Dr. Cullian Hill (MI), the parents of the late Travon Martin, Jordan Davis, Michael Jiles, Robert Champion, and pastors and community leaders from across America. They will join Reverend Holmes as he shares his vision for the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. that will create a new sense of synergy and excitement in the Black church in particular, and America in general.

  Rev. Holmes served as Vice-Chairman of Florida Governor Rick Scott’s Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection.  He forwarded recommendations to the Task Force and Gov. Scott to study the issues and concerns relative to the “10/20 Law” and to ensure the “Stand Your Ground” law has been fairly and justly applied across racial and socio-economic lines.
