North Flint Community Cleanup Project Slated for This Saturday

Hamilton Community Health Network and the North Flint Neighborhood Action Council Collaborate in Community Cleanup Project

Hamilton Community Health Network (HCHN) received a $1 million Community- Based Crime Reduction grant in 2017 to help with the reduction of crime and revitalization of targeted areas in North Flint. The grant was awarded by the US Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). The goal is to make the area safer for residents.

The “Illuminating Community Change Project” (ICC), led by the NF NAC will host a community cleanup event called “Love a Lot. Love a Life.” The project involves getting rid of blight in the area.

Residents, volunteers, and community partners will be on hand to help with the cleanup. The cleanup will involve boarding up abandoned homes, cutting and clearing vacant lots, removing debris, clearing sidewalks so they are traversable, and manicuring residential lawns if allowed.

The cleanup is slated for Saturday, November 10, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Key areas that will be targeted in the cleanup are Sherman Avenue between M.L. King Boulevard and Verdun Street in the 1st Ward and the Foss Avenue Neighborhood in the 3rd Ward.

Partners participating in the cleanup include, Hamilton Community Health Network, North Flint Neighborhood Action Council, WOW Outreach, North Flint Reinvestment Corporation, Kagle Leadership Initiative, Ruth Mott Foundation, Davison Free Methodist Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, LISC and WT Stevens.
