MCC Offers Music Career Open House July 30

Interested in a career in music? Learn what it takes to work in the music industry at an Open House hosted by the Mott Community College (MCC) Music Department Wednesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mott Memorial Building Auditorium.

Meet, greet, tour and learn! Meet the faculty and current students. Learn about MCC’s two music degrees, the Music Technology Associate Degree in Applied Science that prepares students for careers in music production, recording, and audio engineering and the Music Associate in Fine Arts Degree, designed for students who plan to transfer to a university, college, or conservatory and major in music.

Faculty and current students will perform solo and ensemble pieces, followed by a question and answer session about the degree programs. There will also be tours of campus and the Music facilities. There is no cost to attend. Free parking is available in Library parking lot "A" or in parking lot "F.”  Inside the Mott Memorial Building follow the Open House signs to the auditorium.

The MCC Music Technology curriculum integrates state-of-the-art technology with diverse courses involving music creation, post-production, scoring for media, and live sound reinforcement, supplemented by music fundamentals, ensemble performance, and music business courses. Emphasis is placed on the technical, logistical, and creative skills required to be competitive in today's music technology and sound engineering job market.

MCC also offers an Associate in Fine Arts Degree with a focus on music foundation classes and general education requirements that are designed to easily transfer to four-year institutions and music conservatories. This degree track offers students the ability to take all of the same classes they would find in any music program, including: music theory, aural skills, piano proficiency, ensembles, lessons and much more.

“The MCC Associate Degree in Fine Arts music curriculum is commensurate with the first two years of the academic curriculum at all music schools,” said Dr. Townes Miller, assistant professor of Music at MCC. “Additional benefits of our program include low cost tuition, small class size, many performance opportunities and exceptional faculty,” she added.
