Lenore Croudy Named Trustee of the Year by AAWCC
Lenore Croudy, of Flint, chair of the Mott Community College (MCC) Board of Trustees, was named Trustee of the year this morning by the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) at their Annual Convention in in San Antonio, Texas.She shares the award with Marie Flickinger of San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. Accepting the award on her behalf was Dr. John Snell, Jr., vice-chair of the MCC Board of Trustees and MCC President Beverly Walker-Griffea, Ph.D.
“Lenore Croudy has been an active volunteer throughout her adult life, there is no one more deserving of this recognition than she is,” said Dr. Walker-Griffea of the award. “Her deep commitment to Mott Community College (MCC) and the greater Flint community stems from a determination to make life better for all, to provide educational opportunities for all, and to make certain minority youth are exposed to the kinds of activities that enable them to live engaged, active lives.”
“It is difficult to imagine what the Flint area would be like had it not been for the influence of Lenore,” said Snell, long-time friend of Croudy. “She has always been more than an advocate for education; she has been a fighter, for she believes that a strong educational background is the basis toward improving the quality of life in the community and beyond.”
Croudy has served as a member of the Mott Community College Board of Trustees for more than 28 years, and has been the board chairperson for the past 20 years. During her tenure on the board, Croudy has been a key part of developing innovative programs and setting policy to further expand educational opportunities for all individuals, and to ensure MCC provides the highest quality, most affordable education and services possible.
Croudy’s leadership on the MCC Board of Trustees has ensured that the College serves as an anchor institution, playing a key role in these and many other regional economic development efforts. Her commitment, insight, and vision have helped the College move forward during difficult times.
In addition to her service on the MCC Board of Trustees, Croudy created the Youth Leadership Institute, focused on teaching African-American students the fundamentals of community leadership. She has served on the board of directors of the YWCA, the Center for the Visually Impaired, the Salvation Army, the Voluntary Action Center and Allegro, a group supporting musical education for youth. She was vice chair of the Flint Urban League and Treasurer of New Paths. The Mayor of Flint appointed her to the Human Relations Commission (1983-87) and also to the Citywide Advisory Committee (1988). She also served as the coordinator of the NAACP Regional Conference in 1990.
Additionally, Croudy has served on the National Board of Directors and as the Central Region Chairperson for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). She was the first African-American elected as Chair of the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA) and she currently serves as a representative on the MCCA Trustees Committee and on several advisory committees for the ACCT.
