Job Corps 50th Anniversary

Job Corps  50th Anniversary Celebration began with energetic musical selections from children of the Boys and Girls Club while students and staff passed by in route to program.
 
During the 50th Anniversary  Program, Congressman Dan Kildee gave a exceptional  speech followed by the presentation of a Congressional Record from the 113th Congress.  President Craig Coney, of Genesee Shiawassee Workforce Development Board, presented the center with a Proclamation of Celebration.  Other Proclamations were received from Mayor Dayne Walling, State Representative Woodrow Stanley, Genesee County Commissioner Brenda Clack, and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights Commission. Senator Carl Levin extended his congratulations with a distinctive certificate also. Student government members gave history of the program, the choir sang, and alumni students reflected how the program helped them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.  Three current staff of Flint Genesee Job Corps (Retail Sales Instructor,  Homeland Security  Instructor, and CTS Counselor) – alumni as well, highlighted their positive experiences. A 50+ Community Partner Banner was displayed in which over 50 partners made donations in support of the celebration. Funds collected were contributed to the Student Government Association (SGA) for additional activities for student body.  Guest, students, and staff enjoyed a delightful reception following the program.
