Flint, Michigan – Genesee Health System announced that it will be accepting applications for their Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Advisory Council.
The primary function of the Council is to:

  • Consult with and advise the GHS Board of Directors to ensure that SUD services are accessible, responsive, and available to all segments of the community, and are comprehensive and of high quality; and
  • Provide a mechanism for the effective coordination of resources among agencies, community organizations and individuals to support the development and maintenance of a comprehensive substance use disorder services system.

“Our community needs to have a mechanism to provide input and a forum for discussion regarding substance use disorder needs and services throughout our community, and this council is an avenue to do that,” says Wanda Cole, Chair of the GHS Board of Directors.  “We are looking forward to working with interested members of our community and encourage them to apply.”
The council will include representation from a variety of sectors in the community that include:

  • Public and private substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery providers,
  • Individuals who are or have been directly served by substance use disorder treatment, recovery and prevention programs,
  • The general public, including civic organizations and the business community representing an interest in and willingness to advocate for prevention and treatment services for persons with or at risk of substance use disorders,
  • Local agencies or other stakeholders such as law enforcement, education, related services agencies such as housing, employment assistance or other health and social service agencies including local foundations.

Regular meetings will be held no more than 12 times per year and no less than once each quarter.  The term of office of a Council member shall be two (2) years or three (3) years. Members can be elected to subsequent terms. Interested applicants may complete the online application at www.genhs.org/SUD.  Applications will be accepted until positions are filled.
