Genesee County Land Bank Celebrating 10th Anniversary

We are excited to announce that the Genesee County Land Bank will celebrate their 10 year Anniversary on December 7th, 2014. There will be a private commemorative celebration at the Durant in downtown Flint on December 2nd• The Genesee County Land Bank was the first land bank in Michigan and has had many great accomplishments in removing blight, empowering residents, revitalizing neighborhoods and supporting vacant land re-use. In the celebration, many thanks will be extended to all of the generous partners for their contributions to the community for making their first 10 years a success.

"I am very proud of what has been achieved in the ten years of the Land Bank's existence" said Deb Cherry Genesee County Treasurer and Genesee County Land Bank Authority, Chair. "Some of the highlights of the last ten years include generating over $55 million in grants, with over $31 million being generated in 2014 alone. Other accomplishments include demolishing nearly 5,000 blighted properties, removing 4,000 tons of debris, selling over 5,000 properties and helping over 1,700 residents become first time home-owners."

The Clean & Green Program is also celebrating its 10 year anniversary as well. A special thanks to participants that mow and maintain thousands of properties each year.
