Flint Youth Theatre's 'Pinocchio' Adds Joy To The 2014 Holiday Season

The story of the wooden puppet who yearns to be a boy will be brought to lifeon the Flint Youth Theatre (FYT) stage when “Pinocchio” opens Dec. 5 and runs through Dec. 21, 2014. Written by Carlo Collodi and adapted by Greg Banks, the play is directed by FYT Executive Artistic Director Jeremy Winchester.

‘Tis the season for giving, and Pinocchio wants the gift of becoming a real boy more than anything else in the world. Follow Pinocchio as he learns that it is not what we get that makes us whole, but rather what we give.

“While 'Pinocchio' is a familiar story to us through movies and books, we are really excited about the unique way in which we tell the tale,” said Winchester. “Yes, it’s the beloved story we know, but with a modern twist and a few surprises that we think will engage and entertain audiences. Plus, the delightful music by local musician Dave Kimber adds a special element that will make this 'Pinocchio' truly unique.”

Kimber, who co-wrote the “Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute” theme made famous by Woodsy the Owl, composed original music for four of the play’s poems, transforming them into songs sung by the cast. He also composed incidental music used throughout the play. His daughter, Annadelle Kimber, a theatre major and graduating senior at the University of Michigan-Flint, has served as music director and assistant director for the production

The creative team also includes Scenic Design by Tim McMath, Costume Design by Kate Nelson, and Lighting Design by Drew Florida.
