Flint & Genesee Chamber to Offer 25 Opportunities for Professional Development

In support of the region’s workforce, the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce will host 25 professional development opportunities during the second half of the year. The new workshops, which kick off in early July, will cover a variety of topics including communications, financial planning, grant writing, leadership development, marketing and sales.

“Whether you’re new to your job or are a seasoned professional, it’s important to set aside time for professional development,” said Steven Elkins, director of Member Services and Business Training at the Flint & Genesee Chamber. “It’s a great way to increase your knowledge, sharpen your skills and stay at the forefront of your industry.”

According to Elkins, the Chamber partners with local, regional and national professionals to deliver these workshops.

For instance, Dan Handley, president and CEO of Dale Carnegie Training presented by Handley & Associates, will bring three Dale Carnegie Trainings to Genesee County this year. These include Create Loyal Customers (July 23), Master the Selling Process (Sept. 24) and Rapport: Becoming a Trusted Advisor (Oct. 3).

Other workshop facilitators represent Michigan-based public relations agencies, universities and business consulting firms.

“By partnering with experts in their fields, the Chamber is able to serve as a central resource for a wide variety of professional development trainings,” Elkins said. “And thanks to the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, we’re able to offer these trainings at little cost to attendees.”

As part of its summer/fall training and development lineup, the Chamber is also supporting the Crim Fitness Foundation as it hosts Search Inside Yourself Leadership (Oct. 22-23), a two-day workshop on  mindful leadership and emotional intelligence. Early-bird registration pricing is available until Sept. 1, and discounted tickets are available for Flint residents and organizations thanks to the support of the Mindful Cities Flint Initiative.
