Flint Community Schools Implement Balanced Calendar, August 7 Start

By Sheri L. Stuart, Staff Writer

Students enrolled in the Flint Community School District will head back to class on Wednesday, Aug. 7. The earlier than normal start date is part of a balanced calendar administrators have adopted for the 2019-20 academic calendar. The balanced calendar features 180 days of instruction with six breaks of four to 10 days, called intercessions throughout the year. Classes for the academic year will end June 18, 2020. Education experts say the move may reduce summer learning loss. Visit www.flintschools.org to download a copy of the balanced calendar.
