Devyn Marble Could Be The Steal of The NBA Draft

Devyn Marble Could Be The Steal of The NBA Draft

By: Alex LaGrone

The NBA draft was held a few weeks ago.  If you are a college basketball fan you were able to see some of your favorite players be selected to play at the next level. The state of Michigan was a clear winner, with five players selected in the draft.

Selected players from Michigan were Nik Stauskas (Sacramento Kings), Mitch McGary (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Glenn Robinson (Minnesota Timberwolves). Michigan St. had Adreian Payne (Atlanta Hawks), and Gary Harris (Denver Nuggets). Let's claim two other players with Flint ties, James Young, who went to Kentucky (Boston Celtics) and Devyn Marble who played at Iowa, (Orlando Magic).

Your Detroit Pistons, who had only one pick, selected Colorado's point guard, Spencer Dinwiddie. My first thought was … who is Spencer Dinwiddie? Well, he is a 6'6'' guard, is coming off a knee injury and missed half of last season. This is clearly a gamble, to take a guy who can't even play right now. We'll see how this plays out.

Devyn Marble (son of Beecher/Iowa legend Roy Marble) will be playing for the Magic. Marble, who is normally a cool customer on the court, inflecting damage against opposing teams; couldn't hold his emotions when he realized his dream of playing in the NBA finally came true. "It was pretty emotional, Marble said, I'm not an emotional guy but I was just so happy to have come this far. There's been so much work put into it. I don't think people fully understand how much work it took for me to get to this position." Marble played three different positions at Iowa while scoring 1,694 points. He could be best suited as a wing player with his versatility.

The Magic finished last season 23-59. I can see Marble working his way into the lineup just as Michigan St., Draymond Green did at Golden St. With Marble's work ethic and talent it looks like the Magic could very well have "the steal" of the 2014 NBA draft.
