Bridging the Gap Between Faith and Mental Health

Community Wellness & Mental Health Fair, Saturday, Sept. 7

By Sheri L. Stuart, Staff Writer

A volunteer group of mental health experts and service professionals is coming together with Cathedral of Faith Ministries to host a community wellness and mental health fair. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith, located at 6031 Dupont Street in Flint. Pastor Christopher Martin, Sr., and Dr. Tiffany ‘Missionary’ Quinn are spearheading the planning. Dr. Quinn is a school social worker who also leads the trauma and loss ministry at the church. She said the health fair is a response to the devastation many people around the country are facing in their personal lives. She pointed to the recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio as just one example.

“The church is no longer silent about mental health care,”  said Dr. Quinn. “We’re coming together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote preventive mental health practices in the Flint community.  We’re putting together a team that’s passionate about providing resources and mental health services to people in need.  We want to build a safe place where people can come and get help,” she said.

Attendees will receive information about mental health and wellness services. Screening for substance use and mental disorders will also be available.  Volunteers interested in sponsoring the event or providing services and resources may contact Dr. Quinn at (810) 449-8982 for additional information.
