6th Annual Food Garden Tour

edible flint Now Accepting Garden Nominations for their 6th Annual Food Garden Tour

June 17, 2014 Flint, MI – edible flint is looking for food gardens to be featured on their 6th Annual Food Garden Tour, featuring gardens in and around the City of Flint. The tour is on Wednesday, July 30th, 4:30-8:30pm. Tours will depart from the new Flint Farmers’ Market including both bike and bus routes. If you have a garden or know of a garden edible flint wants to hear about it!

Nominated gardeners will have the opportunity to showcase their gardens as well as engage with tour participants by exchanging knowledge and stories. Gardens featured on the tour will be included in the event program and will receive an edible flint Food Garden Tour garden stone. edible flint is looking to feature a variety of gardens on the Tour, including local farms, church gardens, community gardens, school gardens, and backyard or home gardens.

Gardens considered to be part of the Food Garden Tour must be within 8 miles of Downtown Flint and be at least 50% edible (including vegetables, herbs, and fruits). Gardens not nominated can’t considered to be on the Food Garden Tour. You can nominate your garden or a garden you know of, online by vising edibleflint.org, by calling Sam Farah at (810) 244-8527, or by printing out a nomination form found here. Garden nominations are due back to edible flint June 23, 2014.

edible flint is a network of individuals and organizations unified by the mission, “to support Flint residents in growing and accessing healthy food in order to reconnect with the land and each other.” edible flint formed in 2009 and since then has hosted 5 Food Garden Tours, collectively sold produce through the edible flint Co-op at the Flint Farmers’ Market, offered introductory classes on urban food gardening, completed an assessment of some food vendors in the City of Flint by youth, and has distributed Garden Starter kits and services.
