2014 Crime Victims’ Advocate Award Bestowed

Jonquil Bertschi, Weiss Advocacy Center, was presented with the 2014 Crime Victims’ Advocate of the Year Award. The award is selected annually by Prosecutor David S. Leyton and was presented to Ms. Bertschi at the Genesee County Bar Association Annual Law Day Lunch.

Ms. Bertschi, the immediate past Executive Director of the Weiss Advocacy Center, was praised for her dedication in advocating for abused children in Genesee County. Since 2008, the

Weiss Advocacy Center has fought for hundreds of abused children. The Weiss Advocacy

Center has grown from a small non-profit agency to a nationally recognized child advocacy center.

Under Ms. Bertschi’s leadership, the Weiss Advocacy Center and local communities have partnered with Western Michigan University in order to treat trauma-informed system that will match the children’s needs with trauma-informed interventions and case management practices.

This award goes back many years and reflects the Prosecutor’s desire to give special recognition to men and women in our community who have gone the extra mile on behalf of victims of crime in our community.
